Symphony Concert
Thursday, 26 February 2009
Soloist: James Grace (guitar)
Conductor: Chris Dowdeswell
Odeion
19:30
Tickets: Computicket www.computicket.com

The brilliant guitarist James Grace is the soloist in Rodrigo’s wonderful Concierto de Aranjuez which will be performed by the Free State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Chris Dowdeswell. The rest of the programme will consist of music by two Czech composers: Antonín Dvoøák and Bredrich Smetana.  Smetana’s Bartered Bride Overture is often regarded as one of the best ever written for a comic opera. Although the composer did not use actual quotations from folk tunes in this work, Dvoøák’s music sounds like Czech music.  His Symphony no. 6 is full of gorgeous melodies and fiery emotional passages.

Admission:
R80 (adults), R60 (pensioners, students and learners)
Tickets available at Computicket (at all Shoprite / Checkers shops, Mimosa Mall information desk) and at the doors.
