ARNOLD BOSMAN Memorial Concert

On 8 March the Odeion School of Music will present the annual special memorial concert in honour of Arnold Bosman, renowned conductor and pianist. The first memorial concert took place in 2010 to commemorate five years since his death in 2005.

Artists who will perform, include:

  • Lourie Coetzee (organ)
  • CATHEDRAL SINGERS under the leadership of Lance Phillip together with Lourie Coetzee (organ)
  • FLYING FINGERS with Brigitte Botha and Johan Cromhout
  • Alida van der Walt (mezzo-soprano) with Johan Cromhout (piano)

Programme:

  • Vierne: Symphonie No. III in F-sharp minor, Op. 28 for Organ
  • Vierne: Messe Solenelle, Op. 16
  • Mozart: Sonata for Four Hands in C major, K.521
  • Haydn: Eurilda’s Aria from Le Pescatrici
  • Gazzaniga: Agatina’s Aria from La Vendemmia

Concerto Festival with the FSSO

Six young musicians were chosen at auditions held in February to perform with the Free State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexander Fokkens. They are Heinrich Lategan (marimba), Thapelo Masita (cello), Tumi Ntantiso (soprano), Maja van Dyk (viola), Carmi Viljoen (violin) and Caryn Reed (piano). The Concerto Festival will be presented at 19:30 on Thursday 22 March in the Odeion.

The programme is as follows:

Summer from the Four Seasons (Vivaldi) which will be played on the marimba by Heinrich Lategan;
The first movement from the Cello Concerto in b minor (Dvorak); with Thapelo Masita as soloist
The aria Ebben, ne andro lontana from La Wally (Catalani)w which will be sung by soprano Tumi Ntantiso;
The third movement from the Viola Concerto in c minor (Casadesus / JC Bach) with Maja van Dyk as soloist;
The fourth movement from the Symphonie Espagnole (Lalo) with Carmi Viljoen as soloist;
Pianist Caryn Reed will end the evening with the Hungarian Fantasy for piano and orchestra (Liszt).
