Over the past few years he has won all the South African national music competitions for which he was eligible, including the UNISA National Piano Competition as well as the UNISA and SAMRO Overseas Scholarships.

He regularly performs concertos with all the leading South African symphony orchestras, including the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, The KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa. He also regularly gives solo and chamber music recitals throughout South Africa. His recent nationwide concert tour as pianist of the Moritzburg Festival Trio received rave reviews.

Ben Schoeman’s performing career extends to the international realm and includes recitals across Europe, Canada and the United Kingdom. Forthcoming engagements include a concert tour throughout South Africa (sponsored by Vodacom) as well as performances in Milan, Turin and London’s Wigmore Hall.

After his graduation from the University of Pretoria in 2005, where he studied under the guidance of Joseph Stanford, he continued his studies with Boris Petrushansky at Italy’s renowned international piano institute in Imola, the Accademia Pianistica ‘Incontri col Maestro’. Other teachers include Michel Dalberto and Louis Lortie. In 2008 he received the prestigious Laureate Award from the University of Pretoria for his outstanding achievements as well as his contribution to art music in South Africa.
