ARU Mountain Reference Library

Housed within the ARU Building on the UFS Qwaqwa Campus, the ARU Mountain Reference Library provides an exceptional collection of international mountain literature to support scholarly engagement and transdisciplinary research. The core of this resource was the personal library of Prof Martin Price, a founding member of the ARU Advisory Board, donated to the ARU in 2020 upon his retirement. Other donations (e.g. from the South African National Biodiversity Institute, Prof. Rodney Moffett, and others) also comprise some of the volume contents. The collection spans works from mountains around the world across multiple disciplines. The library is complemented by virtual conferencing facilities and a communal space, reflecting the ARU’s commitment to accessible, African‑rooted scholarship.  The collection is catalogued as part of the total UFS library collection, through Library Services.
