Overview of AA at the UFS
UFS students who meet with academic advisors have a higher probability of passing more than 70% of their modules (UFS, CTL, 2018). Academic advising is therefore at the core of being a successful student at the UFS.

What is Academic Advising?
Academic advising at the University of the Free State focuses on student learning, educational experiences, and seeks to connect students’ academic interests and skills with their personal and career ambitions. Advisers teach students to plan and manage their educational journey and guide them through decision-making processes related to their educational journey.

Whilst CTL advisors provide general advice, and connect students to UFS support, faculty advisors ensure that students stay on track with their curriculum and comply with UFS rules.

What do we aim for?

The ultimate goal of academic advising is to instill academic behaviours that will promote access with success in students. Students are encouraged to access advising services throughout their student journey.
