The Student Learning and Success (SLS) focus-area was formerly known as one of the programmes that made up the High Impact Practices (HIP’s). The focus-area consisted of 1 flagship tutoring programme that was established in 2007 with 55 tutors. In 2015 the tutorial programme was renamed to A_STEP and has since grown to not only offer tutorial support to students but also to contribute to the talent development within CTL and the broader university through its internship programme and the Teaching and Learning Coordinators development pathway.
During 2020, the SLS focus area was established and now coordinates tutorials and senior student support initiatives with a strategic objective to lead high impact practices that advance student learning and employability.
The aims of A_STEP is to:
- create a new approach to the support and develop student learning to maximise throughput and success rates;
- contextualise and integrate into the training and development of tutors’ cutting-edge international, electronic resources and teaching and learning approaches through the development of a Blackboard interface; and
- contribute to the development of a new generation of academics who are skilled in learning and teaching.
