EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF IKS (Indigenous Knowledge Systems) UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMES AS A DECOLONISING STRATEGY IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH

Funding: NRF grant number 86540.

This study explores the impact of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) university programmes in the global South, as one strategy among many decolonial operationalisations. It draws on two case studies in the global South, one in South Africa and the other in Colombia. In particular, the study investigates the extent to which these programmes advance human development as envisioned under students' cosmovisons and locally valued ways of beings and doings. The study highlights the importance of starting a new line of research in higher education and development studies assessing decolonial practices from students experiences and voices and fostering South-South conversations and knowledge exchange among global South universities.
