Short CV

Tshokolo Johannes Makutoane was born in the Southern Free State at Bethulie. He received his basic education at the following schools in Thaba ‘Nchu: Seiphemo Primary, Christian Liphoko Middle School and Goronyane High School between the years 1980 – 1992. He received his BA (with distinction in Hebrew) at the University of the North (Qwaqwa) (1995); BTh at the University of the Free State (1998). In the same year he did a special course on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling. In 2003 he received his MA (Cum laude) in Language Practice and in 2011 he received a PhD in Near Eastern Studies, both at the University of the Free State. In 2003 he was contracted as a junior lecturer; a lecturer in 2004 -2007 at University of the Free State in the Department of the Old Testament. In 2006 -2009 he was contracted as lecturer in the Department Afro-Asiastic Studies, Sign Language and Language Practice teaching Elementary Hebrew. In 2011 he was contracted as a lecture in the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies. In the same year he was also helping with the postgraduate teaching at the Department of Language Management and Language Practice. In 2012 - present he is contracted as a senior lecturer in the Department of Hebrew. He specializes in Theory of translation, Bible Translation and Orality Studies. He is a co-author of 4 published articles in different journals; a co-presenter of 4 papers in 4 International Conferences, and a presenter of 3 papers in 3 National Conferences. He has just passed an assessor course with the Central Business Academy accredited by the Health and Welfare Seta.

Other work experience: a Hostel teacher at Brebner High (1996-1999), Counselor and Adviser at the Aurora Rehabilitation Center (Volunteer) (2000 – 2004), Spiritual Worker at Grootvlei Prison (2000 -2002), Minister of Religion at Dutch Reformed in Africa Rehauhetswe (1999 – present).

He also occupied the following positions of responsibility: Chairperson of the Youth Commission of the DRCA Bloemfontein Presbytery (1999 – 2006); Secretary of the DRCA Bloemfontein Presbytery (1999 -2007); Chairperson of the Theological Student Guiding Commission of the DRCA (2001 – present); Chairperson of the DRCA Bloemfontein Presbytery (2007 -2010); Administrative Officer of the DRCA Kuratorium (2010 – present); Moderator of the Free State Regional Synod of the DRCA (2011 – present); Deputy Chairperson of the Witnessing Commission in Bloemfontein (2011 – present); Chairperson of the Reformed Initiative for Community Development (2012 – present).

He is married to Disebo Elizabeth Makutoane and they have been blessed with two children--Mosa (daughter) and Tshepo (boy).
