Jeanne-Louise is the violist of the Odeion String Quartet at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein. She is also the viola lecturer at the University of the Free State. She was appointed as violist of the Odeion String Quartet after many years as principal violist in various professional orchestras in South- Africa. As a soloist she performed with many South African orchestras. Jeanne-Louise completed her B.Mus degree at the University of Pretoria. She was the winner of many awards and competitions. As a student she went to Salzburg and received lessons from the well know violist and pedagogue, Thomas Riebl. She completed her M.Mus degree at the University of the Free State in 2014 with distinction.
Jeanne-Louise is an experienced chamber musician and soloist. She performs regularly with some of South Africa’s foremost musicians. Many South African composers have composed works for Jeanne-Louise.
She has performed at four International Viola Congresses: Stellenbosch, Rotterdam and Rochester, New York. In June 2022 Jeanne-Louise did an online lecture recital for the American Viola Society and the 47th International Viola Congress at Columbus State University in June 2022. The presentation Expanding Viola Repertoire through Intercultural Musical Collaborations was adone in collaboration with the Ethnomusicologist Dr.Joseph Kunnuji.
Jeanne-Louise is the principal violist of the Free State Symphony Orchestra as well as the Mzansi National Symphony Orchestra. She feels very passionate about expanding the repertoire for viola, especially by South African Composers and also the recording the wonderful compositions for Viola by South African Composers.

Odeion String Quartet Concerts 2022
2022 was a busy year for the Odeion String Quartet and included 31 live performances, a recording and masterclasses.
Lunch hour concerts
They continued with a project performing string quartets by Haydn once a month at lunch hour concerts in the Odeion. These concerts were often also repeated at retirement homes in Bloemfontein.
Quartet of Peace
The Quartet of Peace is the name given to a small ensemble representing South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Laureates: Desmond Tutu, Albert Luthuli, FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela. Created by master craftsman Brian Lisus, the group consists of two violins, a viola and a cello – with each instrument symbolising one of the statesmen. The Odeion Quartet performed on these instruments on various occasions.
Collaborations with different soloists
The Odeion String Quartet collaborated with three internationally renowned musicians –pianist Charl du Plessis, accordionist Pietro Roffi and cellist Susan Mouton - during 2022.
With Charl du Plessis they performed the Piano quintet op. 34 in f minor (Brahms).
They performed works by Mozart, Vivaldi and Piazzolla with the Italian accordionist Pietro Roffi.
Susan Mouton was the guest artist with the OSQ in the String Quintet in C major (Schubert).
Recordings
The Odeion String Quartet made a recording for Brooklyn Theatre TV, Odeion Auditorium which was streamed from 15 April. The programme included works by Haydn, Schubert and Hugo Wolf.
Another recoding featuring music by Schubert and Haydn was streamed from 20 May.
Other
The Odeion String Quartet was asked to perform at an event honouring Prof. Hubert Van Der Spuy, former head of music exams at Unisa, on his 80th Birthday at Nazareth House Chapel in Pretoria. The programme consisted of string quartets by Schubert, Rainier and Brahms.
