Prof Theo Neethling

Prof Theo Neethling, Head of our Department of Political Science, read a paper titled Towards the end of UN peacekeeping in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: Prospects for peace and reconstruction in a troubled country. 

He spoke at the 4th European Conference on Africa Studies in Uppsala, Sweden. The theme of the conference was African engagements: On whose terms?

The paper focused on the planned withdrawal of all United Nations peacekeepers to the DRC, against the background of various stumbling blocks and challenges in the country's continuous peacekeeping process.

This wide-ranging conference was organised by the Nordic African Institute and was attended by 1 073 researchers and 45 publishers representing 70 countries.
