The Social Work Student Association (SWSA) is a student body representing registered social work students. The SWSA exist, in its own right and according to the rules, regulations and Constitution of the Institutional Student Representative Council (ISRC) and the Department of Social Work of the University of the Free State (UFS), even in the event of changes to its membership or executive committee members”.

The primary aim of the SWSA is to guide students of the Department of Social Work towards excellence by improving their educational standards and promoting the moral and ethical code of the profession.

The following objectives of the association are to:

  • serve as a link between students and lecturers by encouraging students to consult lecturers with academic challenges.
  • serve as a link between the students and the Department of Social Development by being a spokesperson on the financial aid provided.
  • make the Department of Social Work and the profession more visible to the University of the Free State community by assisting with and organizing relevant activities and events.
  • support social work students by referring them to the relevant resources to assist them with their emotional, academic, and social challenges.
  • promote unity and community amongst students by organizing events to know each other better and build relationships.
  • enable students to be more exposed to communities by becoming involved in uplifting community activities.
