1. Prepare your application
Before applying online for selection and admission, please ensure you have the following documents readily available in clearly readable, electronic format:
- A certified copy of your South African ID document or passport (for international applicants)
- Certified copies of all previous qualification certificates*
- Certified copies of all previous academic transcripts
Certified copies should not be older than three months at the time of your application.
*Applicants with international qualifications need to provide a SAQA Verification Certificate along with certified copies of their qualifications. For more information on the verification of qualifications, please visit www.saqa.org.za
2. Apply online for selection at the Centre for Environmental Management (CEM)
Students are selected on a competitive basis. For your application to be considered for 2023, you need to complete our programme-specific selection form. Have all the required documentation ready to be uploaded during completion of this form.
If you do not receive a confirmation email from us within five working days, please contact the CEM. Applicants submitting the required documents that are either wrong, not certified, certified but older than three months at the time of submission, illegible, or incomplete, will not be considered for selection.
3. Apply online for admission at UFS
All prospective students should apply online for admission to study at the UFS. You will also be requested to upload the required documents as listed above during your online application. You will receive an automated electronic confirmation that your application has been received by the UFS, upon successful submission.

4. Selection
Successful applicants will be notified via email by the first week of December. If you do not receive a written acceptance letter via email from the Centre for Environmental Management by the end of December, your application was unsuccessful.
Due to the high number of applications, the Centre for Environmental Management is unable to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
