Minimum total credits: 360
For full-time students, the minimum period of enrolment is two (2) years. Students are generally expected to complete their studies within four (4) years. For part-time students the minimum period of enrolment is four (4) years. Students are generally expected to complete their studies within six (6) years for a doctoral degree.
After completion of this module, the student will have displayed independent research skills, the ability to formulate a specific research question, and the methodology to systematically investigate the research question at hand. The results of the research will be presented in a thesis written according to academic standards.
In accordance with the stipulations of a Faculty Board, as contained in the Faculty rules, a Doctoral Degree may be presented in the form of one (1) of the following options:
* the submission of a doctoral thesis (three hundred and sixty (360) credits), or
* three (3) academic interrelated, publishable manuscripts/published articles and papers and, in certain fields, creative work such as artefacts, compositions, public performances and public exhibitions in partial fulfilment of the research requirements (three hundred and sixty (360) credits).
