The module focuses on the origin and development of drama and theatre practices by thematically exploring the history of the theatre, from traditional African Theatre to Renaissance theatre.
Drama and Performance Studies 1 (20 credits) - DRAT1605
Students are exposed to different genres and styles, semiotic theory and dramaturgical text analysis theory, movement, speech and basic acting techniques.
Performance Practice 1 (20 credits) - THEP1505
The module is the practical implementation of theories studied in the DRAT1605 module.
Technical Management and Scenography 1 (16 credits) - THET1504
The module focuses on the basic theory of technical aspects of the performing arts (décor/scenery, properties, lighting, sound, costumes, theatre safety and stage management).
NOTE: The first year major and compulsory modules are prerequisites to advance to second year level.
