Resume

Prof Karen Leigh Harris is a full professor at the University of Pretoria where she is both the Head of the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies and Director of the University Archives. She holds a DLitt et Phil in History as well as a higher education diploma and is an accredited culture tourist guide. She is the Africa representative for the International Society for the Study of Chinese Overseas, the chair of the Historical Association of South Africa, executive board member of ATLAS and is the coordinator of the ATLAS Africa chapter. Her research focuses primarily on the Chinese within the southern African region and was used in the court cases regarding the SA Chinese community and Black Economic Empowerment and hate speech. She is the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Teaching and Learning, the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award as well as Faculty Supervisors Award.
