Short CV

Mrs Angelique Novella earned her BMus qualification from the University of the Free State (UFS) in 2008, majoring in piano with violin as a secondary instrument. She continued her education, specializing in Music Education and Practice, and received her BMus Hons qualification in 2010 under the guidance of Mrs Gerda Pretorius. Beginning her career in 2011 at the Christelike en Nasionale Primêre Meisieskool Oranje (OMS), she taught individual instrumental lessons in piano, violin, recorder, and guitar, while also conducting the strings ensemble and the junior choir for grades 1 to 3. Her junior choir receives six consecutive Gold Awards at the ATKV National Choir Competition, ranking among the top 10 junior choirs in 2014. She has adjudicated at several Eisteddfods during her career and values these opportunities to encourage fellow musicians. In July 2017, Mrs. Novella was appointed as a lecturer in Music Education and Practice at the Odeion School of Music (OSM), UFS. She developed a particular interest in incorporating bodily movement into the teaching and learning process, actively participating in courses and workshops on Orff and Dalcroze pedagogical approaches. Her pursuit of a holistic approach to beginner instrumental teaching culminated in the completion of her MMus degree in Music Education and Practice at UFS in 2022. Since 2017, she has been actively involved in Community Music Engagement programs in and around Bloemfontein. Focusing on bridging her teaching of Western Art Music Theory with the indigenous musics of the Community Music Engagements programme members in Bloemfontein, she is pursuing her PhD qualification. Her passion for and dedication to her students and music education takes the lead in her teaching approach.
