Short CV

Mrs. Angelique Novella obtained her Bachelor of Music (BMus) degree from the University of the Free State (UFS) in 2008, majoring in piano with violin as a secondary instrument. She continued her postgraduate studies at the same institution, specialising in Music Education and Practice, and graduated cum laude with the BMus Honours degree in 2010.

In 2011, she commenced her professional career at the Christelike en Nasionale Primêre Meisieskool Oranje (OMS), where she was responsible for individual instrumental tuition in piano, violin, recorder, and guitar. In addition, she conducted the school’s strings ensemble and the junior choir (Grades 1–3). Under her direction, the choir achieved six consecutive Gold Awards at the ATKV Nasionale Koorkompetisie, securing a place among the top ten junior choirs nationally in 2014. In July 2017, Mrs. Novella was appointed as a lecturer in Music Education and Practice, Aural skills and Music Theory at the Odeion School of Music (OSM), UFS. In this capacity, she actively engages in the development of innovative pedagogical approaches, with a particular interest in the integration of bodily movement in music teaching and learning. Her professional growth is further enriched through participation in workshops and specialised training in the Orff and Dalcroze pedagogical methodologies. She is also regularly invited to serve as an adjudicator at Eisteddfods, where she advocates for holistic and transformative pedagogical practices in music education.

Her ongoing interest in holistic beginner instrumental pedagogy culminated in the successful completion of her Master of Music (MMus) degree in Music Education and Practice at the UFS in 2022. Beyond her academic responsibilities, Mrs. Novella is deeply committed to Community Music Engagement initiatives in and around Bloemfontein, contributing particularly to the Mangaung Strings Program (MSP) and the Bloemfontein Life Change Centre (BLCC) Music School, where she teaches music theory. Currently, as a doctoral candidate, she focuses her research on the integration of embodied cognition and transformative teaching and learning approaches to support motivation and well-being among pre-graduate music students at a South African university.

At the core of Mrs. Novella’s professional identity lies a profound passion for music education and an unwavering dedication to the holistic development and success of her students.
