Short CV

Jan Beukes obtained the degrees BMus, BMusHons, MMus and PhD (Muisc) from the University of the Free State  and also obtained a Licentiate in Organ Performance from Unisa. During this time he took part in masterclasses with Ludger Lohmann (Germany), Ewald Kooman (The Netherlands), Wolfgang Rubsam (USA) and Jacques van Oortmerssen (The Netherlands). He lectures organ and organ method since 2002 and joins the permanent staff in 2010. He frequently gives solo organ recitals and is actively involved in departmental concerts, especially as chamber musician. In 1998 Jan received an award from Unisa for outstanding music tuition and since his appointment in 2002, his students won various awards and competitions.

MUSE7900 (Organ) This module comprises studies in instrumental/vocal proficiency through engagement with advanced musical repertoire. MUSP7800 represents study of a first instrument with the artistic and technical command equating a UNISA Concert Diploma (or FTCL; LRSM).
MUSG2502 Following on the syllabus of MUSG2502, this module exposes the student to further important style periods and genres of art music through guided listening to a selection of recordings. The module equips students with an expanded knowledge of the most important literature and composers and with skills of informed engagement with sounding music, either as recordings or in concert.
MUSP1502 (Organ) This module comprises studies in instrumental/vocal proficiency through engagement with musical repertoire. MUSP1502 represents study of a second instrument with the artistic and technical command varying from entrance to more advanced levels.
MUSP1605 (Organ) This module comprises studies in instrumental/vocal proficiency through engagement with musical repertoire. MUSP1604 represents study of a first instrument with the artistic and technical command equating UNISA Grade 7 to Grade 8.
MUSP1605 (Piano) This module comprises studies in instrumental/vocal proficiency through engagement with musical repertoire. MUSP1604 represents study of a first instrument with the artistic and technical command equating UNISA Grade 7 to Grade 8.
MUSP2602 (Organ) This module comprises studies in instrumental/vocal proficiency through engagement with musical repertoire. MUSP2602 represents study of a second instrument with the artistic and technical command equating UNISA Grade 5.
MUSP7800 (Organ) This module comprises studies in instrumental/vocal proficiency through engagement with advanced musical repertoire. MUSP7800 represents study of a first instrument with the artistic and technical command equating a UNISA Concert Diploma (or FTCL; LRSM).
