Lindy Vinke, a doctoral student at the Department of Music, recently published an international novel. The murder mystery, Music for the Sun King, is the result of Lindy’s research on the history of French Preludes from 1650-1700 and her activities as harpsichordist.

Her doctoral research on the influence of the Italian madrigal on the composer Froberger, promoted by John Reid Coulter and Prof Martina Viljoen, is also based on Early Music.

The novel is set in 17th century France at the time of King Louis XIV, who was also known as the “Sun King”. Robert Dieupartis, the King’s harpsichordist, is poisoned during his investigation of a crime committed many years before.

The reason behind Robert’s murder gradually unfolds as his previous investigation is unravelled. Music for the Sun King obtained rave reviews on Amazon.com.
