Education Masterclass

On Wednesday 19 July 2023, the University of the Free State (UFS) Career Services hosted a masterclass for students from the Faculty of Education. The topic of this masterclass was professionalism and workwear. Making the transition from student to professional can be difficult. Unknowingly, students adopt typical student behaviour that is perfectly acceptable for a tertiary environment. However, the world of work expects a different approach – you need to look and behave the part.

Being professional shows that you respect yourself and those around you – a trait that will help you progress throughout your career.

Professional conduct is not out to rob you of your personality, but rather to enhance what you have to offer society. Being professional shows that you respect yourself and those around you – a trait that will help you progress throughout your career. Learning how to dress well is no mean feat either. Wearapy and dopamine dressing is gaining increasing interest in the field of psychology – how you dress seems to affect us more than we used to believe.

All attendees were from the Faculty of Education and comprised undergraduate and postgraduate students; although there was some online attendance, most students opted for the in-person event.

The feedback was very positive, with students expressing the need for more such sessions. “As teachers – everywhere we go, we are always teaching; so, you have to be professional at all times,” one student commented. Another mentioned that the masterclass was thoroughly enjoyable and a great help to many students who will be attending their practicals soon. Look out for more communication from UFS Career Services to join the next event.
