FULL-TIME POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP FOR 2025

Closing date: 31 October 2024

The SARChI Chair in Higher Education and Human Development research programme has two full-time, two-year Postdoctoral Fellowships from 2025. The fellowship can be extended for a further year depending on progress. You will be expected to take up the fellowship in January 2025 and no later than 1 April 2025, after which any offer falls away. The fellowship is targeted at early career researchers (that is up to five years post-PhD). Normally, applicants must be under the age of 40 years. Applicants should submit a research plan including: 1) feasible original research project - for year 1 or year 2 of the fellowship; 2) publications plan for two years (two articles per year); 3) impact plan to indicate how you will engage with academic and non-academic actors; and 4) timetable for these research activities.

The successful applicant will be expected to live in Bloemfontein, South Africa when not conducting fieldwork. Applicants from outside South Africa will need a student visa and proof of medical insurance. The annual stipend is ZAR 270 000 (non-taxable) which includes ZAR 30 000 annually towards research expenses.  The stipend is paid quarterly. Additional funding of ZAR 25 000 to attend an international conference is normally available each year. Fellows may not be in full-time employment during the duration of the award. They may undertake up to 10 hours paid work per week with the agreement of Professor Melanie Walker.
