Study buddy is a collaborative community service learning opportunity between honours students from the UFS Psychology Department and learners from Bainsvlei combined school in Bloemfontein. As part of the students’ community psychology module, they are assigned to one of two practical community service learning projects- Promoting Teacher Well-Being at Lettie Fouche School, or Study Buddy. As part of the Study Buddy project, students engage in a collaborative and theory-driven process of needs analysis with the learners, intervention planning, and intervention delivery. Interventions differ slightly each year, depending on the needs identified with the learners, but have frequently included the presentation of live, interactive psychoeducation workshops, podcasts, workbooks, and handouts on topics including: Study skills, relaxation techniques, career planning, goal-setting, healthy relationships, bullying, and much more.
