The Batlokwa Ba Mokgalong Royal House, based in Vrede, Free State, is the senior royal house of the Batlokwa nation. Led by Kgosi Nkgahle Tsotetsi, who serves on the Free State House of Traditional Leaders, the royal house is actively engaged in land restitution, cultural preservation, and tribal development.

The Batlokwa Ba Mokgalong Royal House is connected to the UFS through a formal, strategic partnership aimed at rural development, academic collaboration, and community upliftment. This partnership is anchored by a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with regional traditional leadership, including the Batlokwa Ba Mokgalong. It enables knowledge exchange by linking traditional indigenous knowledge systems with formal university research, academic learning programmes, and community symposia. The partnership provides researchers with direct access to the community, ensuring that academic enquiry is grounded in lived experience and contributes meaningfully to cultural preservation and development.
