Who they are:
The Makholokoe Royal House, also known as Bakholokoe, is a significant traditional community in Harrismith, in the eastern Free State. Led by Chief Morena Tshohisi Moloi (Letsitsa Moloi III), the royal house plays an active role in community development and the preservation of South Africa’s cultural heritage.

Services offered:
Its formal partnership with the UFS focuses on community education, leadership capacity building, and financial management training. In late 2024, the UFS Qwaqwa Campus signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with regional traditional leaders, including the Makholokoe Royal House, bridging higher education and traditional leadership under a shared developmental vision. This collaboration advances rural communities by combining academic resources with indigenous leadership structures. In April 2026, the UFS Business School launched a specialised executive programme for Free State royal houses, equipping leaders with practical skills in financial management and governance. Morena Ernest Moloi represented the Makholokoe Royal House in this initiative, emphasising how the training directly strengthens traditional councils in managing local resources and serving their communities more effectively.
