Talitha Cumi Child and Youth Care Centre

Who they are:
The Talitha Cumi Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) in Bloemfontein is a registered temporary place of safety and baby house, providing residential care, shelter, and basic needs for vulnerable, orphaned, or abandoned children up to 10 years of age. Operating as a haven for those removed from abusive or neglectful homes, the centre offers stability and protection during critical periods of transition.

Services offered:
The UFS collaborates with the centre through community outreach, service learning, and volunteer programmes. Supported by initiatives such as Childline Free State and CRC Cares, the partnership ensures that students – most recently from Nursing Science – gain practical exposure to child protection and care. This engagement situates academic learning within contexts of vulnerability, resilience, and restorative practice, while affirming the role of higher education in supporting community welfare.
