Jaqueline (Jackie) du Toit, PhD (McGill), is an NRF-rated scholar, professor and co-director of the Vice-Chancellor’s Prestige Scholars Programme (PSP). She is the author of two books: Canada’s Big Biblical Bargain (2010, McGill-Queen’s Press) with Jason Kalman (Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Relgion) and Textual Memory: Ancient Archives, Libraries and the Hebrew Bible  (2011, Sheffield University Phoenix Press). Maintaining her interest in cross-generational production and transfer of information in religious collectives, her current focus is on late nineteenth and early twentieth century Afrikaner folk religion as represented in children’s Bibles and religious literature for the young, travelogues, sermons, early Afrikaans literature, and the like. The project is entitled, “The Bible and the Apartheid State.” The aim of this project is to reposition the discourse on emergent Christian nationalism and the apartheid state away from its pre-occupation with the Afrikaner elite and its intellectual moorings in Europe.
