Thakaneng Bridge

It is important for the University of the Free State that individuals feel they belong to a circle of friends that support and inspire them to reach their full potential. At our institution this sense of belonging is facilitated through student communities. Student communities at the UFS are created through small pockets of cohesive groups that consecutively build towards larger communities.

At the basic level students are encouraged to become members of these cohesive groups through on-campus residences, day residences, student associations and/or faculty organisations. Collectively these cohorts form the strong building blocks of larger communities, called Student Life Colleges.

Our programmes include:

  •  Active Civic Teaching (ACT)
  •  Arts and Culture
  •  Career Services
  •  Gateway First-year Orientation
  •  Food Environment
  •  Student Leadership Development
  •  Peer Mentor Programme
  •  Research and Co-Curricular
  •  Student Media
