Excellence
The athletics programme at the UFS is thriving, driven by passion, talent, and commitment. This success is exemplified by the university's Olympic gold medallist in the men's 400 m, whose historic achievement has had a global impact. His determination and success are a source of inspiration for the entire programme.
Further demonstrating the university’s excellence in athletics, 15 of its athletes have reached the pinnacle of their sport, standing on world podiums with gold medals from the Olympic and Paralympic games.
Additionally, the UFS is a significant home for South African athletics, with 94 athletes representing the university while proudly wearing the national colours. Their journeys, marked by resilience and pride, underscore the university's role in nurturing top athletic talent.
Facilities
Pellies Park, the heart of KovsieAthletics at the UFS, boasts a clubhouse equipped with all the necessary amenities to support and develop champions. This space offers athletes an environment to gather, strategise, and build strong bonds beyond competition, fostering excellence through dedication and hard work.
The UFS is also proud of its four-lane synthetic run-up designed specifically for long jump and triple jump competitions, ensuring athletes have access to top-notch training and event facilities. This facility is also based at Pellies Park.
In addition to Pellies Park, there are three cross-country courses on the Bloemfontein Campus where athletes train to enhance their stamina and endurance. Each course provides a challenging terrain that helps athletes build grit and determination.
Our nationally recognised facilities enable us to achieve excellence without limits, nurturing legends from the grass track up. Only a Kovsie knows the feeling!
