The Department of Parasport in KovsieSport is dedicated to athletes with disabilities within the UFS community. Our mission is to support and empower students at all levels of participation, from recreational to provincial and national competitions. We currently manage various sporting codes, including boccia, athletics, goalball, and cricket.
We believe in providing students with access to sport, ensuring they can compete, prioritise their physical and mental well-being, and push their personal limits. Whether you are a prospective or current student interested in joining our parasport community, we encourage you to contact this department for the support you need.
Excellence
At KovsieSport, we take pride in our commitment to excellence, exemplified by the achievements of our own Louzanne Coetzee, a standout South African para-athlete. Her journey reflects the possibilities that await our athletes:
- Paralympic success: Louzanne clinched a silver medal in the women's 1 500 m T11 and a bronze in the marathon T12 at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
- World records: She set a new world record in the 5 000 m T11 category in 2017.
- World championships: Louzanne triumphed in the 1 500 m T11 at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris.
Join us at KovsieSport, where we celebrate the spirit of inclusivity and excellence in parasport!
