Former Kovsie wins second Olympic medal; leads Blitzboks to bronze

The former Kovsie and Shimla rugby player Philip Snyman claimed a second bronze medal at the Olympic Games, this time as a coach.

Snyman led the SA Sevens team to their bronze, as the interim head coach, and South Africa’s first medal at the Games in Paris, France, this weekend. He was promoted to the Blitzboks head coach in March 2024 after being an assistant coach.

He was a player in 2016 when the Blitzboks won a bronze medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Snyman gave all the credit to the players for their performance in France. South Africa came out on top in their nail-biting third place play-off against Australia (26 – 19).

“This win was also for those back in South Africa, but the moment belongs to the players. I am so proud of them and what they achieved,” Snyman said in a media statement.
