As the countdown begins to the 2025 World Rugby U20 Championship, excitement fills the air for young athletes preparing to take the stage in Italy from 29 June to 19 July.

Among them are two rising stars from the UFS: Erich Visser and Stephanus Linde, known as Fano. Their journey to this prestigious tournament is a story of dreams, hard work, and the true spirit of rugby.

For Erich, who is a passionate scrumhalf, being selected to represent the Junior Springboks is the realisation of a childhood dream. “I’ve always wanted to wear the green and gold,” he shares. “It took a lot of hard work, but every moment has been worth it.”

Fano’s journey has been equally inspiring. “The training camps started last November, and Coach Melusi Mthethwa made it possible for me to be invited to the training camp. When I saw my name on the final team list, I was overwhelmed with joy,” he recalls.

As the team prepares for their adventure in Italy, they are deep into a rigorous three-week training camp. Each day is packed with intense sessions focused on teamwork and skill development. “We’re working hard as a unit, the forwards are focusing on lineouts and scrums,” Fano explains.

South Africa finds itself in Pool A, alongside formidable teams like England, Australia, and Scotland. The competition will be fierce, but Erich and Fano are ready to rise to the occasion.

Let’s rally behind Erich, Fano, and the entire team as they embark on this thrilling journey in Italy. The stage is set for an unforgettable adventure, and we can’t wait to see them chase their dreams at the 2025 World Rugby U20 Championship!
