ABOUT THE DIRECTORATE RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT
Glen

As the Director: Research Development, I am committed to fostering excellence and impact through transformative research at the University of the Free State (UFS).

Our strategy aligns seamlessly with the UFS vision of being an innovative research-led, student-centred, and regionally engaged university. We aim to produce globally competitive graduates and knowledge that contributes to development and social justice.

Here are the key pillars of our strategy:

  1. Differentiated research approach:
    • We recognise that research is not one-size-fits-all. Our approach matches resources to areas of strength and distinctiveness, ensuring impactful outcomes.
  2. Developing excellent researchers:
    • We invest in our scholars, nurturing sustainability and continuity. By empowering researchers, we elevate the quality of our work.
  3. Visibility, impact, and uptake:
    • Our research should not remain within academic circles. We strive to make it visible, impactful, and relevant to society.
  4. Sustainable research environment:
    • We provide the necessary management, physical, and financial resources to create an ecosystem where research thrives.

In essence, we strive to increase our contribution to local, regional, and global knowledge. We focus on resource allocation, ensuring that our areas of strength receive the attention they deserve.

Together, let’s continue pushing boundaries, asking critical questions, and shaping a brighter future through research.
