International Studies Group

UFS strip research

The International Studies Group (ISG) comprises PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting academics with an active research interest in the histories of Central and Southern Africa in particular, and African and global history more generally.

The ISG hosts the respected Stanley Trapido seminar series. Click here for the dates of the second semester (2024) Stanley Trapido seminar series.

A highlight event on the ISG calendar is the off-campus Ramblers seminar series, designed to showcase the work of PhD students from near and far.

All ISG members are encouraged to publish books and articles in leading international journals. In recent years, this has included monographs placed with CUP, MUP, Routledge, Palgrave Macmillan, Brill, Rowman & Littlefield, and Ohio University Press. Articles across a wide range of intellectual and research interests have appeared in the Historical JournalHistory WorkshopBusiness History ReviewJournal of African HistoryJournal of Imperial and Commonwealth History, and regularly in the Journal of Southern African Studies.
