Traffic Management

The UFS has traffic officers appointed by the MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport who are responsible for traffic law enforcement on the campuses to ensure smooth and safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians. They also see to it that all vehicles have the necessary access permits, which must be displayed visibly on the windshield. These permits are valid for one year.

Temporary permits can be obtained for short-term use.

Access permits

  • All vehicles using the roads of the university must obtain an access permit before 28 February each year.
  • The access permit must be displayed in a clearly visible spot on the windshield of a vehicle.
  • Motorcycles, etc. must display the permit on a visible spot on the motorcycle.
  • Permits can be purchased from Protection Services at R55 per vehicle and are not transferable.

Traffic rules

Normal traffic rules apply on campus, and offenders can be fined.
