At the University of the Free State (UFS), your safety and security are our top priorities. Our dedicated team of Protection Services staff works around the clock to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students, staff, and visitors across our three campuses – aligning with its strategic vision of setting a benchmark and being a leading protection services department (PSD) in the higher education sector in South Africa.

In line with the UFS Strategic Plan 2023-2028, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive atmosphere that supports high-quality learning, teaching, and scholarship. Our initiatives are designed to enhance the well-being of our university community, emphasising accountability, care, and social justice.

From 24/7 security patrols and surveillance systems to emergency response and support services, we strive to provide a secure and welcoming environment for everyone. We encourage all members of the UFS community to actively participate in maintaining safety – both on and off campus – by adhering to our security policies and reporting any suspicious activities.

Reporting a crime/incident anonymously:

If you witness a crime or incident, please report it anonymously to help keep our UFS community safe. By sharing what you know, you contribute to a safe environment for everyone.
