Compliance

UFS Protection Services ensures compliance with various national and local legislation to maintain a safe and secure environment on campus.

This includes the following:

  • Adhering to the Firearms Control Act (No 60 of 2000), which regulates the carrying of weapons on university premises.
  • Protection Services also follows the Higher Education Act No 101 of 1997, which governs the operations of higher education institutions in South Africa.
  • Additionally, the university's security policy is aligned with the King IV Report on Corporate Governance, emphasising accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct.

Protection Services personnel are responsible for identifying and assessing security risks, executing security-related functions, and ensuring that all security measures comply with relevant legislation and best practices.
