What is it? Academic advisement at the UFS is an ongoing, intentional learning and teaching process that supports and encourages students to align with and fulfil their personal, academic, and career goals. It is a high-impact practice aimed at connecting with, empowering, and supporting students to achieve academic success.

Why is it important? The envisaged result is that students have a meaningful academic experience while at the UFS and feel a sense of belonging to the UFS.

How is it implemented? Academic advising guides you through 6 phases of your university journey and ensures you graduate in record time! No matter where in the journey you are, academic advising will help you find your way and keep you going!

At the UFS, we identify academic advisors under 4 categories:

AA 4 categories

  • Peer advisors refer you to the appropriate support structures, such as success coaches, tutors, RCs, etc.
  • Student Support Advisors provide information, services, and support in administration and academics, including Student Counselling and Development, Career Services, and Student Administration Services.
  • Faculty/curriculum advisors assist students with curriculum-specific advising, such as rulebook queries.
  • Central (general) advisors are there to help you align your personal, academic, and career interests (e.g., study skills discussions, time management, etc.).
