Staff support

Line

What is it? CTL provides evidence-based support to academic and academic support staff through professional development opportunities and access to tools and systems that enable them to implement learning and teaching, as well as research (SoTL) that impact student success.

Why is it important? Developing and supporting academics is important for student success because it helps lecturers improve their learning and teaching methods, assessment practices, and use of innovative learning technologies. Well-supported and continuously trained academics are better able to engage students, respond to diverse learning needs, and create high quality learning experiences that promote student engagement and success.

How is it implemented? We do this through various established units and initiatives, such as:

  1. BLISS (Blended Learning Innovation Support and Services), which is a specialised focus area that advances digital education, offering services such as online assessment design, multimedia content production, and student/staff training.
  2. The Write Site, which supports lecturers by collaborating to improve student writing skills through tailor-made workshops (online/face-to-face) and individual student writing support for specific modules. We assist with scaffolding assignments, conducting writing workshops, and offering targeted interventions to help students meet subject-specific demands.
  3. Research in CTL, which supports lecturers by providing evidence-based insights, data analytics, and pedagogical tools to improve teaching quality, curriculum design, and student success.
