Academic Student Tutorial and Excellence Programme (A_STEP)

Line

What is it? This tutorial programme provides peer-led, small-group, hybrid learning activities aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of academic content to promote their academic success.

Why is it important? During these small-group tutorials, we combine academic content with study skill development. Students collaborate with peers and tutors to discuss module content and lecturer expectations. A_STEP also provides a learning experience for tutors, enhancing their employability as graduates.

How is it implemented? A_STEP tutorials are designed to create collaborative opportunities and to apply knowledge based on students’ needs. They are presented face-to-face, online or one-on-one. A multilingual environment is promoted during these sessions, and we aim to blend the activities completed in the tutorials with the work discussed in the main lecture. We send a call to all lecturers once a year for them to apply to become part of this programme. Modules are prioritised based on risk- and needs categories, and modules across campuses can participate.
