What is it? Learning Design at the UFS is how we create effective and engaging learning experiences by selecting and organising content, activities, technologies, and assessments to meet specific learning outcomes for students. Lecturers continuously design and develop their learning and teaching activities, while the BLISS learning designers provide specialist support towards this design, specifically integrating technologies (and Blackboard) into the teaching space.

Why is it important? Designing the learning opportunities for students in a structured way, based on sound learning and teaching strategies, ensures that your outcomes, assessments and learning activities are well aligned. It also creates learning experiences with well-integrated technologies and not as merely add-ons.

How is it implemented? Different learning designers are responsible for assisting lecturers in different faculties. Lecturers, other academic staff and support services colleagues can contact their learning designers via email or phonecall. They can also make appointments for in-person assistance. Where necessary, the learning designer will refer the lecturer to a more appropriate support section.
