The Academy for Continuing Professional Development in Health Care (hereafter referred to as the Academy), established in 2010, addresses the Continuing Professional Development needs of nurses and other healthcare professionals. The Academy is a reputable educational unit offering accredited and competency based Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) to empower students to become change agents, community leaders, practitioners and scholars of note. The vision of the Academy endorses transformation in higher education by generating a third stream of income earmarked to support teaching and learning and scholarship development.
The students registered at the Academy are adult learners. They have families and, most often, employment responsibilities in addition to socio-economic challenges, placing them at risk for success. The programmes are intended to provide needs-based capacity development opportunities and continuing professional development.

Once a year the academy also offers a course in simulation for health professions educators, an introduction video to this course can be viewed here.
