Area(s) of Interest

Etho-ecology. Diverse aspects of behaviour and ecology of birds and mammals are studied under natural conditions in semi-arid regions of southern Africa. Projects which include research on the feeding behaviour of cattle egrets in the Free State, ecology of the brown bear of the Himalayas, aviation control on inland airports, territorial behaviour of black wildebeest, the ecology of feral pigeons in Bloemfontein, comparative behaviour and ecology of the red hartebeest and black wildebeest in the Free State, aspects of the etho-ecology of the bles- and bontebok in the Free State, Anura as biological indicators of unrehabilitated mines in South Africa, the influence of used uranium mines on animal communities and the relation between eye structure and morning song of birds in the Free State have been undertaken.
