Master’s Bursary Opportunity in Computer Science and Informatics

The Department of Computer Science and Informatics at the University of the Free State offers two Master’s bursaries for research projects connected to the Information Technology Service-Learning (ITSL) initiative. These projects are part of the broader research focus on “Digital Inclusion for the Common Good”. Students can select from a range of available research topics within this area.

The ITSL initiative

The Information Technology Service-Learning (ITSL) project at the University of the Free State empowers unemployed community members with essential digital skills. As part of the CSIS2642 module, UFS students provide free Microsoft Word and Excel training to computer-illiterate individuals. The project operates in two locations: face-to-face sessions on the Bloemfontein campus and a distance learning implementation at the loveLife Y-Center in Botshabelo. Successful completion is recognised with a certificate, opening doors to new opportunities in the digital age.
