Members of the Molecular Virology group  in the Department of Microbiology and Biochemistry participated in the annual partners meeting for the DFG-funded project, “Antigens and Reassortant Strains for rotaviruses circulating in Africa (AfRota)” from 14 to 16 September 2022 in Maputo, Mozambique.

Vanessa Partsch

Vanessa Partsch (left) visited the Molecular Virology group as a research intern for eight weeks in 2021, from July to September. Vanessa participated in the worldwide Research Internship in Science and Engineering (RISE) programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). During her visit, she worked closely with Corinne Fourie (right), a PhD student in the Molecular Virology group, on the recombinant expression of rotavirus VP6 in yeast.


Bonang Mochochoko

Dr Bonang Mochochoko and Corinne Fourie represented the department in the 2022 edition of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Flash Fact competition in the postdoc and PhD categories, respectively. The Flash Fact competition is based on the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) research communication competition, which was first developed at the University of Queensland, Australia. Ms Fourie was placed second in the faculty in the PhD category.
